CTSA was established in 1961 with the objective to establish, manage and assist schools in India for the education of Tibetan Children living in India while preserving and promoting their culture and heritage.

Re-Structure of CTSA:

Government of India has set up a Peer Group in 2002 on the recommendations of the Expenditure Reforms Commission to review the functioning of CTSA. Ministry of Education, Government of India vide their letter dated 18.1.2013 has communicated the decisions of Government of India to transfer of schools run by CTSA to Department of Education (DoE), Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) or any registered society run by DoE, CTA.

In compliance of the above decision of Government of India, with the approval of the Ministry of HRD 55 Schools of CTSA have been transferred to STSS, DoE, Dharamshala. (33 Pre-Primary, 9 Primary, 5 Middle, 5 Secondary & 3 Sr. Secondary).

At present 06 Sr. Secondary Schools (5 Residential and 1 Day School) are being run by CTSA at Shimla, Dalhousie, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Mussoorie and Herbetpur.

The following are some of the salient features of the Central School for Tibetans:

  • The CBSE curriculum is implemented in CTSA and NCERT Books are followed. However Tibet Text Books are published by DoE, Dharamshala.
  • Mid-day-Meal is provided to all the Tibetan Students in School.
  • Activity based teaching learning is implemented in all the classes/Schools. The class rooms are equipped with Starboard/Smart boards with internet facility.
  • The Teacher and student ratio in the CTSA Schools are 1:11.
  • The Computer and student ratio in the CTSA Schools are 1:10 and all Schools have fully equipped computer Lab with internet facility.
  • Common Annual Exam. System is in practice in CTSA Schools.
  • The dropout rate in CTSA School is Nil.
  • Every year annual sports meet are organized in Schools. The CTSA Schools are also take part every year in CBSE Sports meet.
  • Excursion/ education tour is also organized every year in all Schools of CTSA.
  • Regular in-service-training are provided to 10% to 20%of the teaching staff of these schools through various organization like NCERT, CBSE etc.
  • Yoga is a regular part of morning assembly.
  • Swacch Bharat Abhiyan is implemented in all CTSA Schools; with the result the School campus and its surroundings are more clean.
  • The CTSA Schools have good infrastructure, School building with School Library, Science Labs, Computer Lab, Resource Centre, and separate toilet blocks for boys & girls, Multipurpose Hall, open maths & Science labs, Herbal garden etc. The residential Schools have hostel building with dining hall and kitchen. The Schools have modern staff quarters for its staff.
